WHO IS COMPETING WITH WHOM NOW? 2008-03-18
I wonder if 2008 is going to see a continuation of the Suppliers competing with themselves!
During 2007 it became mandatory for each supplier to offer you a choice of at least two Driver models (in multiple configurations of course) and up to six models of Irons.

I guess with all the different approaches to solving the problem of extra distance, less shot dispersion, reducing fades, slices and hooks the manufacturers feel that they need to have a model for every problem.
Add the different lofts and there are over 27 different Drivers!
I can see no reason why the trend to more choice is not going to continue. So get used to spending more time thinking about your decisions with Drivers.
There are rumours in the market that we will see in 2008 some of the manufacturers offering you the ability to buy screw in heads. You will be able to decide before each round, from your bag of heads, which you want to play with today.
You could go with the head to create a low, running draw for extra distance or a head that allows you to play a high fade for extra accuracy.
What interested me was a quote from an industry specialist who attributed the extra length that the Pros are now getting, on their Tee Shots, almost exclusively to ‘custom fitted shafts’.
That’s definitely an area that most amateur golfers neglect when choosing new golf clubs, yet, as Seve Ballesteros said, “let me choose my shaft and you can put whatever head you like on the end”. Wise words it seems.
