A CHOICE OF PREMIUM GOLF BALLS - SRIXON 2008-03-18

I am surprised at how many golfers spend their money on a ‘Premium’ golf ball and then don’t make sure that it is the right alternative for them.

Most of the better golf ball manufacturers offer alternative models of multi-layered golf balls. Srixon have the Srixon Z-URC and the Srixon Z-URS. Are you sure you know which of these golf balls is the perfect choice for you?

My advice is to try them out off the Putter, with little chip shots, some short wedge shots, full 8-Irons and finally full out Tee Shots. Compare how the ball feels and reacts off the club. With the shorter shots you will notice a different reaction as the ball hits the green and, depending on your swing speed, different results off the Tee-Box.

But here is my take on who will benefit most from each golf ball:

For the golfer with the faster swing speed. The energetic gradient core will resist the maximum force a little more, stopping the aggressive golfer from crushing the golf ball. This allows greater energy transfer with Driver swing speeds that are greater than 90 mph.

This ball has a slightly lower launch angle and a slightly higher spin rate off the Driver face (than the Z-URS), again working for the faster swing speed.

The higher spin rate is carried through to the short irons allowing the aggressive golfer to attack the tightest pin.

If you are looking for a blend of soft feel, spin on approach and distance, and your swing speed is average or above, then try out the Srixon Z-URS.
The Core is slightly softer than the Z-URC allowing the ball to generate good distance for those who swing the Driver in the 80 – 95 mph range (most of the better players).
It spins less than the Z-URC, allowing the ball to carry further and to be slightly straighter.
For those of you who want a really soft feel off the Putter and Short Irons then this is probably the choice for you.
The moral of this story is to email me what you are looking for from a golf ball and then try out the suggested alternatives. You will be surprised at the difference the correct golf ball will make to your game. So why not drop me a note to see if the newest balls take on your old favourites?
