KEEP YOUR BALANCE!!! 2008-03-18

Keeping your balance sounds elementary, but when it comes to golf, this is not such an easy task to master.

Although golf professionals do not agree on everything, they do agree that if your balance isn’t kept through the entire swing, it is impossible to have a good stroke. It would seem simple to keep your balance, but your balance is thrown off by several things. When you are tense your whole body is stiff. When this happens you are trying to hit the ball too hard.

When you start playing golf, one of the things that you are regularly told is not to hit the ball too hard. Forced energy will make the ball go much further than a swing which does not make contact because it is not making proper contact with the centre of the club. By having your balance you will be able to hit the ball properly.

You should concentrate on keeping your head still, and your eyes focused on the ball. The more immobile your head is, the better you will be able to see the ball. By doing this, you will set the stage for keeping your balance. If any movement occurs while focusing on the ball, your swing will be affected. This is why it is imperative that you keep you head perfectly still while swinging.

In order to keep your head from moving, you will need to relax all your body muscles. If you cannot relax, your head will move. Watch yourself in front of a mirror so you can see why you need to relax your muscles to keep your head still while you are swinging. You should practice to see what works for you as no two golfers have the same body-build. It will be necessary to master this in order to keep your head stationary so you will be able to achieve a focus on the ball, thus you will know when the time is right to turn your hands. It is impossible to not grip your club correctly when your head is still and you are not losing your balance. If you follow through correctly you will be able to keep your balance.

By concentrating on balance and keeping your head still, you will not find yourself swinging too hard or pulling your club away. This will make it impossible to put too much power into your swing. When relaxed you will have a smooth and successful finish.

It will take time to perfect your swing. This requires patience. Just concentrate on keeping your balance and your head still. In no time you will be the envy of all your friends.
