IMPROVING EVERY MINUTE OF YOUR 4½ HOURS 2008-03-18

You’ll be aware that shafts have changed because of the design of the clubheads (increased size from 260cc to 460cc in 12 years) and how important it was for you to think about your club’s shafts.

The golf ball and its performance characteristics have also impacted on shaft design. In fact this has become quite a complicated focus area of the game.

By all means pick a brand of Driver with technology that you feel works for you but, depending on your initial choice of Driver, Shaft, Loft and Golf Ball there is a chance that I could tweak the shaft, loft and golf ball and add between 10 and 15 yards to your tee shots.

And before you think that I am talking to the 28 year old, fast-swinging, low single figure handicap golfers amongst you, I am referring to a vast majority of club golfers, especially those of you who are less aggressive in your swing type.

The launch angle of a golf ball on your tee shots today needs to be higher, with a lower spin rate than it was 12 years ago with the 260cc Steel heads and golf balls of the day.

That certainly means more loft than was best 12 years ago and it also means a shaft that has a little more flex in the upper portion of the shaft and a little less nearer the club head.

To maximise your performance you then need to pick a golf ball that works with your swing and your loft / flex setup.

You might think that is all too much trouble, but how difficult is it for us to match your swing speed to your loft and shaft flex. Why not take 15 - 30 minutes of your time with your golf pro. It will have an impact on every minute of every 4½ hours that you are playing golf thereafter.
